Eva Urbanova
is regarded as one of the world’s great dramatic sopranos.

At her home theatre, the National Theatre in Prague, she has performed such varied roles as Elizabetta (Don Carlo), Leonora (La Forza del Destino), Julie in Dvořák’s Jakobín, Milada in Smetana’s Dalibor, Mother of Milla in Janáček’s Osud, and a role for which she is especially renowned, Kostelnička in Janáček’s Jenůfa. She has recently taken on two new roles, Amneris (Aida) and Salome.

Further notable repertoire includes Turandot (BBC Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera Festival, Canadian Opera Company - the the world premiere performance and recording of Luciano Berio’s new final act reconstruction for DECCA), the Foreign Princess in Rusalka (Opernhaus Zurich, Opéra National de Paris, The Royal Opera Covent Garden), Tosca (San Francisco Opera), La Gioconda (Valencia, La Scala, L’Opéra de Montréal, and Berlin’s Deutsche Oper), Libuše (Edinburgh Festival and Prague National Theater), Milada in Smetana’s Dalibor (Prague, Vienna, Cagliari), Kostelnička (Los Angeles Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Teatr Wielki, Warsaw) and Santuzza (Den Norske Opera).

Eva Urbanova made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1998 as Ortrud, returning in subsequent seasons as Santuzza, Tosca, The Foreign Princess, and Turandot.

Eva Urbanova has made numerous recordings and is the recipient of a Grammy Award.
