Mezzos
Delphine Gillot
was born to French parents in Lausanne, where she trained at the Conservatoire. She gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Voice from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before joining the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music.
In her first season since leaving the Royal Academy, Delphine Gillot sang Elettra (Idomeneo) and Illione in Campra’s Indomenée with the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing and in Weisbaden under the baton of Maestro Jean-Claude Malgoire; and made her debut in Italy with the Monteverdi Vespri in Cremona.
In October 2004, Delphine Gillot returned to Opéra de Lausanne to sing the soprano solo in La Voix Humaine to exceptional reviews; in March and April of 2005, she sang the role of Nedda (I Pagliacci) for WNO under the baton of Carlo Rizzi; whilst in June and July, she sang the role of Semire (Les Boreades) at the Opéra National du Rhin under the baton of Emanuelle Haim.
Season 2005/6 engagements included Delia (Il Viaggio a Reims) with l’Opéra de Monte Carlo, Proserpina (Orfeo) and Armida (Rinaldo) with the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing at the Théâtre de Champs-Elysees and Elena (Il Capello di Paglia di Firenze) at the Opéra de Lausanne.
Season 2006/7 engagements included Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Juno (Il Ritorno d’Ulisse) and Polymnie (Les Trois Ages d’Opera) with the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing and Annio (La Clemenza di Tito) at the Théâtre de Champs-Elysees.
Recent engagements include Belinda and Kate Pinkerton in Lausanne.
Her recordings include Proserpina (Orfeo – cond. Malgoire) on the Dynamic Label and La Gloire (Raymond – cond. Rousset) for Ambroisie Records. She is currently recording the title role in Aminta for Harmonia Mundi.
La Voix Humaine / London
In a formidably demanding role…Gillot demonstrated a secure technique and reserves of considerable power, which she used sparingly. Hers was a carefully graded performance, making good use of different dynamic levels from parlando to fulltilt. And her naturalistic acting style combined seriousness with a cool reserve.
