Howard Haskin was born in Kansas City and educated at Wichita State
University, Indiana University, Bloomington and the Zurich Opera Studio, to
which he won a scholarship. He became a member of the Zurich Opera
company and made his operatic debut as Sportin' Life in Porgy and Bess and
Ernesto in Don Pasquale.
Now resident in Paris, Howard Haskin’s extensive international career has
taken him to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Paris/King Priam;
Sportin’ Life/Porgy & Bess), Scottish Opera, English National Opera, De
Nederlandse Opera (Orphée/Orphée et Eurydice; Vova/Life with an Idiot
(World Première)), Opéra de Lyon (Jason/Médée; Tenor Solo/Das Lied von
der Erde; Bacchus/Ariadne auf Naxos), Opéra de Marseille (Bacchus/Ariadne
auf Naxos), Opéra de Nice (Otello), the Royal Albert Hall
(Cavaradossi/Tosca), the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris (Bacchus/Ariadne auf
Naxos), the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo (Samson/Samson et Dalila) and
the Teatro Real Madrid.
Howard Haskin has also performed at the Wexford, Glyndebourne, Orange
and Bregenz Festivals.
Howard Haskin made his Carnegie Hall debut singing the role of Il
Carceriere/Il Grande Inquisitore in Il Prigioniero with the Orchestre
Symphonique de Montréal conducted by Charles Dutoit. His long association
with M Dutoit includes performances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in
Tokyo, Canto Olympico/Antigone at the Avery Fisher Hall, New York, and
Oedipus Rex in Montréal.
On the concert platform, Howard Haskin has performed Beethoven's Ninth
Symphony with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Madrid National
Symphony, Das Lied von der Erde with the Budapest Festival Orchestra,
Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and Il
Prigioniero with the VARA (Netherlands) Radio Orchestra, Swedish Radio
Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Symphonique de
Montréal and the NHK (Japan) Symphony Orchestra.
Recent engagements include Das Lied von der Erde at the Tonhalle Zürich, a
series of concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra, Shabby Peasant (Lady
Macbeth of Mtsensk) with the San Francisco Opera; Volo di Notte by Luigi
Dallapiccola (Pellerin; role debut) ) and Il Prigionieroby Luigi Dallapiccola (Il
Carceriere/Il Grande Inquisitore) with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
